Bruno Mars wrote and produced nearly all of his smash 2010 debut with the Smeezingtons, his tightknit studio crew. But when it came time to cut a follow-up, he decided to mix things up. "We took some master chefs into the kitchen with no master plan," says the singer, 27. "It was either going to be a disaster, or we were going to come out with something incredible."

"Bruno Mars rekrutiert Dream-Team an Produzenten für 'Unorthodox Jukebox'" – so betitelt der renommierte Rolling Stone in den USA einen Beitrag über Bruno Mars.

In der Tat konnte Bruno Mars für das zweite Album gleich eine Reihe herausragender Produzenten verpflichten. So steuerten Jeff Bhasker (u.a. Kanye West, Beyoncé, FUN.), Paul Epworth (u.a. Adele) und Mark Ronson (u.a. Aym Winehouse) Tracks bei.

In dem Artikel spricht Bruno Mars darüber, wie die Zusammenarbeiten zustande kamen. Der Plan war sozusagen, keinen Plan zu haben. Denn nachdem Mars sein Debüt "Doo-Wops & Hooligans" gemeinsam mit seinen Smeezingtons praktisch im Alleingang produziert hatte, entschied er sich für Album No. 2 für einen neue Herangehensweise: "Wir haben eine Reihe von Meisterköchen ohne Masterplan in die Küche geholt", so Mars, der anfügt: "Es gab zwei mögliche Ergebnisse: Entweder ein Desaster, oder etwas Unglaubliches."
